SAISD Invites Families to Community Resource Night featuring Emergent Bilingual Program Information and Title 1 on May 14th

Join San Angelo ISD and community partners for a free, family-friendly Community Resource Night, “Manos a la Obra”, on Tuesday, May 14th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at Bradford Elementary (2302 Bradford Street). The event is an opportunity for SAISD families to learn more about our bilingual program and resources offered throughout San Angelo while enjoying fun like:

  • children’s book giveaways,
  • snacks and refreshments,
  • activities with our Lake View High School Ambassadors student group and STEM program,
  • assistance with the registration process for the 2024-2025 school year,
  • San Angelo READS! story time read alouds, and more.

SAISD is proud to host this evening of fun and information on our SAISD Bilingual Program, and to connect our families to vital and helpful resources in our community. Now in its fourth year, our Bilingual Program utilizes the students' primary language of Spanish as a resource while acquiring full proficiency in English including listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Developing a child’s home language is critical for developing their English language skills. Research has shown that English Learners who receive bilingual instruction at an early age are more successful academically and have higher achievements in later grades.

“Knowing what resources are available in the community is crucial for parents and students as it provides additional support, opportunities for enrichment, and personal development beyond the school or home environment,” said SAISD Director of Emergent Bilingual Christy Diego. “It facilitates networking with individuals and organizations that can offer assistance, advice, or mentorship. Access to essential services ensures students and families can improve their well-being and academic success. Ultimately, awareness of available resources empowers parents and students to make informed decisions and take advantage of opportunities to positively impact their lives.”

SAISD extends our appreciation to our community partners and resources who are joining us to help make this a fun and impactful event for our families including Children’s Advocacy Center, La Esperanza Clinic, Howard College, Adult Literacy Council, Boys and Girls Club of the Concho Valley, Concho Valley Regional Food Bank, H-E-B, Sky High, Region 15 Early Childhood Intervention and Migrant Programs, Alcohol and Drug Awareness Center of the Concho Valley, YMCA and more.
